Caleb Cheeshahteaumuck and Joel Iacoombs were the first two native American students at Harvard, class of 1665. Joel would have been valedictorian but he died in a shipwreck. Caleb died of tuberculosis about a year after graduation. It was 305 years before the next native American graduated from Harvard.
