Woodblock print of Buddha's hand by Annie Bissett
BLESSINGS KITE
Japanese Woodblock Print
16.5" x 11.5" (42 x 29 cm)

This print was made for a mokuhanga kite event. I wanted to make a strong graphic image that would be easily seen when the kite was flown, and I chose the hand of Buddha because I liked the idea of a kite offering peace and blessings to those below. The prints were completed just days after the tragic shooting of Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Arizona, making the image feel even more resonant to me than it did when I started working on it.

16.5" x 11.5" (42 x 29 cm)
made with 1 shina plywood block
6 hand-rubbed color layers on thin Japanese washi.
