Woodblock print of Buddha's hand by Annie Bissett
BLESSINGS KITE
Japanese Woodblock Print
16.5" x 11.5" (42 x 29 cm)

This print was my entry into a Moku Hanga Kite contest sponsored by the Drachen Foundation. I wanted to make a strong graphic image that would be easily seen when the kite is flown, and I chose the hand of Buddha because I liked the idea of an image offering peace and blessings to those below. The prints were completed just days after the tragic shooting of Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, Arizona, making the image feel even more resonant to me than it did when I started working on it.

16.5" x 11.5" (42 x 29 cm)
made with 1 shina plywood block
6 hand-rubbed color layers on thin Japanese washi.
