ARTWORK > Secret Codewords of the NSA

Woodblock print by Annie Bissett depicting a secret code word of the NSA called cultweave
CULTWEAVE
Japanese woodblock (mokuhanga)
6" x 6" (15.24 x 15.24 cm)

C is for cultweave.

Cultweave is a small SIGINT (signals intelligence) database. SIGINT is the gathering of information by intercepting signals, either communications signals or electronic signals.

I wanted to make an image that would suggest various networks interacting and converging. I looked at different kinds of weaving images, and finally found an old-school envelope security pattern called 'basket weave' that I deconstructed a bit to come up with this design.
