Moku hanga woodblock print of a ship, the Mayflower, and woman falling through water by Annie Bissett
DOROTHY BRADFORD COMES TO AMERICA
Japanese Woodblock Print
22" x 9.5" (55.9 x 24 cm)

This print is dedicated to the memory of Dorothy May Bradford, 1597-1620, first wife of William Bradford. Dorothy slipped overboard from the Mayflower while it was moored in Provincetown Harbor and drowned. As the water was shallow, and there were no reports of storms while the boat was anchored there, some scholars speculate that Dorothy's drowning was a suicide.
